Village of St Ewe

A pretty, tiny traditional cornish village 6 miles from St austell & 3 miles from Mevagissey, mid Cornwall.  St Ewe consists of the village square, church and  pub with a small number of surrounding houses. A  rural  village  dating back to Norman times. Evidence of earlier settlement is indicated by the presence of a celtic cross (probably 9th century) which once stood near the centre of the village but was destroyed in 1873 by a farmer looking for buried treasure! Only the base of the cross survives. St Ewe Parish Church also dates back to Norman times and is worth visiting.  It  is  dedicated to St Ewe of whom little is known. During  the 14th century the church's tower and spire were added. The church has a Norman Font and a 15th century rood screen.  Plenty of free parking in the centre of the village near the entrance to the church.  A few minutes walk from the  village centre is the Crown Inn. A good size Inn with  bar food, an open fire in the bar area and a resident parrot . Good bar food at a reasonable price. The Inn also has a restaurant.
