An extremely  picturesque & unique 14th century fishing village where local fishermen still ply their trade.  Mevagissey has a maze of streets with a large selection of craft and touristy shops and delightful eating places (Wreckers Inn, Wheel House Restaurant, The Moorings Tea Rooms and many more). There are 3 large car parks in Mevagissey so there always seems to be plenty of parking space, even during August.  There is a picturesque harbour (actually a double harbour) with a tiny adjacent beach area. Right on the harbourside  is a free Aquarium which is especially interesting because it houses fish tanks displaying the fish available in the local waters (Dab, Bass, Edible Crab, Pollock, Whiting etc).  On the other side of the harbour is a folk museum.  From the harbour one can take the 50 seater passenger ferry to Fowey (a 35 minutes trip, tickets sold on board- approx May 21 to Oct 1).  Sea fishing trips for mackerell are available  and there is free fishing  from the harbour wall.  Pleasure boat trips; can hire a whole boat for about £17 (2007).  Mevagissey has a Tourist Information Centre which unusually  hosts a cafe.  After you have explored the town and harbour take the half a mile  coastal footpath (leading from the harbour) to Port Mellon  sandy  beach,  remembering to stop awhile at the top of the hill to admire the panoramic view over Mevagissey town and harbour.  Once you have reached Port Mellon you will notice the pub (does food) next to the beach.
